New NRC Senior Resident Inspector Assigned to Salem Nuclear Power Plant

Nuclear Regulatory Commission officials in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, have selected Jigar Patel as the new senior resident inspector at the Salem Nuclear Generating Station. He joins Resident Inspector Eli Garcia at the two-unit site, operated by PSEG Nuclear LLC in Hancocks Bridge, New J ersey.

Most recently, Patel was the senior resident inspector at the adjacent Hope Creek nuclear plant after serving as the resident inspector there. He joined the NRC in 2011 as a Region I-based engineering inspector. Prior to joining the agency, he worked for nearly five years as an electrical design engineer. He holds a bachelors degree in electrical engineering from the University of Delaware.

Jigars experience at Hope Creek and as a reactor inspector, in addition to his training and education, make him the ideal candidate for this job, said NRC Region I Administrator Ray Lorson. I have full confidence that he and Eli will continue to assure the Salem units operate safely and meet NRCs safety requirements.

Each U.S. commercial nuclear power plant has at least two NRC resident inspectors. They serve as the agencys eyes and ears at the facility, conducting inspections, monitoring major work projects and interacting with plant workers and the public.
