REQUEST FOR COMMENT PERIOD EXTENSION
Dear NRC Staff:
On behalf of our millions of members throughout the United States that are negatively impacted by current nuclear energy projects or will be negatively affected by newly proposed nuclear energy projects, we ask that you offer an additional ninety days to submit comments on the scope of the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the proposed Kemmerer Power Station Unit 1. This proposed project, and NRCs review of it, is precedent setting for the future of nuclear power in our nation and it warrants additional time for the public to be able to adequately research, prepare, and submit information to the NRC for its consideration.
In particular, we are deeply concerned about the overall lack of transparency on project costs and financial fitness of the applicant, along with many other redactions contained throughout the application. US SFR Owner, LLC (a wholly owned subsidiary of TerraPower) has requested numerous exemptions to NRC regulations and practices to hold information normally disclosed to the public confidential. We ask that NRC deny these confidentiality requests to disclose the information to the public for its review and comment during this scoping process for the EIS.
Our organizations stand ready to assist the NRC in evaluating the consequences and impacts of this precedent-setting project through the NEPA process, but we need additional time and information to meaningfully and effectively participate.
Thank you for your time and attention, and we look forward to your prompt response to these requests.
Sincerely, Powder River Basin Resource Council Sheridan, Wyoming Oregon Conservancy Foundation Clackamas, Oregon Montana Environmental Information Center Helena, Montana Healthy Environment Alliance of Utah (HEAL Utah)
