Dear Keisha Cornelius:

The following edits have been made to the previous letter sent to Organization of Agreement States (OAS) after discussion between OAS and NRC staff (edits are in bold).

Thank you for your letter requesting an extension of the comment period and sharing the OAS feedback regarding the difficulty in obtaining RCPD 004, Opportunity for Advance Review and Comment on the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commissions Draft Proposed Rule: Regulatory Framework for Fusion Systems (RCPD 004). The staff was able to reach a compromise with OAS Phillip Peterson for the new comment period due dates as follows:

  • Draft Federal Register notice - comments due July 15, 2024
  • Draft Guidance - comments due July 30, 2024

Note: The draft Vision & Strategy document comments continue to be due August 14, 2024.

We look forward to your continuing participation and engagement in our rulemaking process.
