To Whom It May Concern:

Xcel Energys application for another 20 year extension of its operating license for the Monticello nuclear power station should be denied. The General Electric Boiling Water Reactor is almost identical to the Fukushima-Daiichi reactors that suffered catastrophic failures and has been cited by industry experts numerous times as poorly designed.

In addition, safety modifications that were recommended by the NRC, post-Fukushima, were disregarded or changed from an NRC mandatory recommendation to voluntary for the operator.

And, if that was not enough, the industry at large, and Monticello in particular, have proven to be untrustworthy when it comes to reporting accidental radioactive releases, resulting in downstream contamination, deemed by the industry as not rising to the level of importance to be subject to the voluntary reporting system in place today.

Finally, given the danger posed by poor design and age, when considering the continued operation of the Monticello power station one must also remember that there is still no safe, long term storage for the radioactive waste generated by nuclear power plants.

Do not extend the operating license for Monticello.
