ACCEPTANCE OF REQUEST FOR REVIEW AND ENDORSEMENT OF NEI 08-09, REVISION 7 - CHANGES TO NEI 08-09 CYBER SECURITY PLAN FOR NUCLEAR POWER REACTORS (EPID: M-2024-OTH-0003)
Dear Rich Mogavero:
By letter dated February 29, 2024, (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) Accession No. ML24061A057), the Nuclear Energy Institute (NEI) submitted a request for U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) review and endorsement of NEI 08-09, Revision 7, Changes to NEI 08-09 Cyber Security Plan for Nuclear Power Reactors.
This letter acknowledges receipt and acceptance of NEI 08-09, Revision 7 for NRC review. By letter dated November 16, 2022 (ML22336A222) NEI requested a fee exemption for the NRCs review of this document. The NRCs Chief Financial Officer approved NEIs fee exemption request on January 17, 2023, (ML22348A112).
In its submittal letter to the NRC dated February 29, 2024, NEI requested NRC endorsement of NEI 08-09, Revision 7, by August 1, 2024. The NRC staff has developed a detailed review plan that includes a technical evaluation by a team of NRC subject matter experts, internal NRC management review, a process for resolving any issues identified, and engagement with internal and external stakeholders. In light of a number of competing priorities, utilization of the same staff resource for this work, and based on the projected schedule for this plan, the staff expects to complete its review by February 28, 2025. If unplanned complexities or challenges change the expected completion date, the reasons for the change along with a new estimated completion date will be communicated to NEI in a timely manner.
