APPOINTMENT OF OFFICE OF NUCLEAR MATERIAL SAFETY AND SAFEGUARDS RADIATION SAFETY OFFICER AND ALTERNATE RADIATION SAFETY OFFICER This memorandum serves as the official notification that Daniel Shaw, Office of Nuclear Material Safety and Safeguards (NMSS), has been appointed as the Radiation Safety Officer (RSO), in accordance with Management Directive (MD) 10.131 "Protection of NRC Employees Against Ionizing Radiation,"Section III, Subpart A.2, to provide coordination of the radiation safety program. Ken Brenneman has been appointed as the Alternate RSO (ARSO).
Management Directive 10.131,Section III, Subparts B.8 and B.13 details NMSSs responsibility to provide coordination for NRCs radiation safety program. This memorandum informs the regions that the NMSS RSO, as the agency RSO, will coordinate among the following offices and regions: NMSS, the Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation, the Office of Nuclear Security and Incident Response, the Office of the Chief Human Capital Officer, and Regions I, II, III, IV.
Coordination authority, as described in MD 10.131,Section III, Subparts B.8 and B.13 is to coordinate the annual RSO counterpart meeting, the annual radiation safety program report, regional program audits, and to resolve radiation safety program matters throughout the year.
