Viktoria Mitlyng, 630-829-9662 Prema Chandrathil, 630-829-9663 NRC Names New Senior Resident Inspector at Braidwood Nuclear Power Plant The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has selected John Robbins as the new senior resident inspector at the Braidwood nuclear power plant. He joins Resident Inspector Phil Smagacz at the two-unit site located in Braidwood, Illinois, and operated by Constellation Energy Co.

John brings a wealth of experience and technical knowledge of day-to-day nuclear operations and safety systems to this role, said NRC Region III Administrator Jack Giessner. I know the resident inspector team we have put together will help ensure the Braidwood plant continues to meet our regulations and operate safely.

Robbins joined the NRC in 2004 as a reactor engineer in Region III. Most recently, he was the senior resident inspector at the Byron nuclear power plant in Illinois. He has worked as a licensing examiner in Region III and has been a resident inspector at both the Bryon and LaSalle nuclear power plants.

Prior to joining the agency, he served four years in the U.S. Navy as an aviation electronics technician. Robbins earned a bachelors degree in electrical engineering from Clemson University.

Each U.S. commercial nuclear power plant site in the United States has at least two resident inspectors who monitor day-to-day operations at the plant. They serve as the agencys eyes and ears at the facility, conducting inspections, monitoring significant work projects and interacting with plant workers and the public.
