PUBLIC SUBMISSION As of: 5/8/24, 6:29 AM Received: May 07, 2024 Status: Pending_Post Tracking No. lvw-k12v-9znx Comments Due: June 10, 2024 Submission Type: Web Docket: NRC-2023-0031 Northern States Power Company - Minnesota; Xcel Energy; Monticello Nuclear Generating Plant, Unit 1 Comment On: NRC-2023-0031-0006 Northern States Power Company; Monticello Nuclear Generating Plant Unit 1; Draft Environmental Impact Statement Document: NRC-2023-0031-DRAFT-0003 Comment on FR Doc # 2024-08746 Submitter Information Email:eric@amphibianrefuge.org Organization:Amphibian Refuge General Comment Amphibian populations are declining worldwide, and amphibians are experiencing high extinction rates due to habitat loss, chytrid fungus, pollutants, pesticides, invasive species, and climate change.
Amphibians are the most threatened class of vertebrates and merit attention in the Monticello Nuclear Generating Plant, Unit 1, Site Specific Environmental Impact Statement (EIS).
The EIS states that five amphibian species likely occur in Wright or Sherburne counties. Amphibian populations should be monitored within 1/4 mile of the Monticello site and 1 mile downstream of the Monticello site to ensure that the nuclear generating plant does not negatively impact amphibian populations.
