Dave Gasperson, 404-997-4417 NRC Schedules Virtual Public Meeting to Discuss Florida Nuclear Power Plants Performance Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff will hold a virtual public meeting April 25 to discuss the 2023 safety performance of the St. Lucie and Turkey Point nuclear power plants. St. Lucie is located near Jensen Beach, Florida, and Turkey Point is in Homestead, Florida. Florida Power &

Light Co. operates both plants.

The meeting will be held from 3-4 p.m. Eastern time on Microsoft Teams. The conference number for those without access to Teams is 301-576-2978, passcode 237118194#. NRC staff responsible for plant inspections, including the resident inspectors based full-time at the sites, will be available to answer questions.

The NRC concluded both plants operated safely in 2023, and all inspection findings and performance indicators were of very low safety significance. As a result, the plants remain under the NRCs normal level of oversight, which entails thousands of hours of inspection each year.

The NRC Reactor Oversight Process uses color-coded inspection findings and indicators to measure plant performance. The colors start at green and increase to white, yellow or red, equal with the safety significance of the issues involved. If an inspection finding or performance indicator has more than a very low safety significance, the NRC increases its oversight.

The annual assessment letters for the Florida Power & Light plants, including upcoming inspection plans, are available on the NRC website. Current performance information for the sites is also available on the NRC website and updated quarterly.
