[External_Sender] Request for extension of the MSRR RAI response date
- All, Requests for Additional Information (RAI) 1 and 2 were issued to ACU on December 21, 2023. Following the issuance of the RAIs, the NRC issued eight audit questions that elaborate on the RAIs. The audit questions were issued January 8 to January 23, 2024.
The ACU Molten Salt Research Reactor (MSRR) is the first molten fuel reactor to be licensed by the NRC.
As identified in the RAIs, there is a limited amount of data supporting the behavior of materials in the salt and radiation environment of a molten salt reactor. ACU and the Natura Resources Research Alliance (NRRA) are working with experts to determine an appropriate and proven approach to account for the absence of data for some material behaviors. ACU and NRRA are evaluating the approach to assure that it addresses the items raised in the RAIs and the follow-on audit questions.
So that ACU and the NRRA can carefully evaluate and revise the material plans accordingly, ACU requests that the RAI response date be extended to March 29, 2024.
