Dave Gasperson, 404-997-4417 NRC Names New Resident Inspector at Turkey Point Nuclear Power Plant The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has selected Arthur Knotts as the new resident inspector at the Turkey Point nuclear power plant in Homestead, Florida.
He joins Senior Resident Inspector Amber Donley at the two-unit site, which is operated by Florida Power & Light Co.
Knotts joined the NRC in 2023 as a project engineer through the Resident Inspector Development Program in the NRC Region II office in Atlanta. Before joining the NRC, he served in the U.S. Navy troubleshooting electric breakers and circuits aboard nuclear-powered ships. Knotts holds a masters degree in engineering management from Old Dominion University and a bachelors degree in nuclear engineering from the University of Tennessee.
Arthur brings to Turkey Point a robust background in nuclear engineering, enhanced by his practical experience in the U.S. Navy, said NRC Region II Administrator Laura Dudes. With his comprehensive understanding of nuclear safety and expertise in the field, Im confident he will help ensure the plant operates safely and meets all the NRCs safety requirements.
Each U.S. commercial nuclear power plant has at least two NRC resident inspectors who monitor day-to-day operations at the plant. They serve as the agencys eyes and ears at the facility, conducting inspections, monitoring significant projects, and interacting with plant workers and the public. Resident inspectors can serve at a reactor site for up to seven years.
