Viktoria Mitlyng, 630-829-9662 Prema Chandrathil, 630-829-9663 NRC Names New Senior Resident Inspector at Clinton Nuclear Power Station The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has selected Jeffery T. Steward as the new NRC senior resident inspector at the Clinton nuclear power plant in Clinton, Illinois. The plant is operated by Constellation Energy Company.
Steward joined the NRC in 2016 as a reactor engineer in NRCs Region III office. Most recently, Steward was a senior resident inspector at the Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant. He also has served as acting senior resident inspector at the Nine Mile Point Nuclear Station and resident inspector at the Brunswick Steam Electric Plant.
Jeffery came to the NRC with a wealth of experience. His extensive knowledge and expertise in the nuclear field, coupled with his ability to carry out the agencys safety mission, make him a great addition to the resident inspector office at Clinton, said Region III Administrator Jack Giessner.
Prior to joining the agency, Steward was an energy industry analyst at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and an NRC-licensed operator and certified license training instructor at the Perry nuclear plant in Ohio.
He began his career as a nuclear-trained submarine electrical operator in the U.S. Navy and continued to serve as a reservist in various units and assignments until 2009, retiring with 31 years of service.
Steward earned a bachelors degree in nuclear engineering technology from Thomas Edison State University and a masters degree in management from Troy University.
Steward joins resident inspector Arsalan Muneeruddin at Clinton. Each commercial nuclear power plant site in the United States has at least two resident inspectors who monitor day-to-day operations at the plant. They serve as the agencys eyes and ears at the facility, conducting inspections, monitoring significant projects, and interacting with plant workers and the public.
