SUMMARY
OF MEETING ON JANUARY 24, 2024, WITH TRISO-X LLC, TO ALIGN ON THE U.S. NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION SUPPLEMENT FOR THE TRISO-X LLC RESPONSES TO THE REQUESTS FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION RESPONSES ON THE STRUCTURAL SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) hosted a closed Microsoft Teams meeting with TRISO-X, LLC (TRISO-X) on January 24, 2024, from 10:30AM until 12:00PM. The purpose of the meeting was to align and to have a mutual understanding on the NRC request for a supplement to the TRISO-X responses dated December 15, 2023 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) Accession No. ML23349A208) to the previously issued requests for additional information (RAIs) dated November 17, 2023, regarding programmatic items in the previously submitted structural review (ML23313A110). The original application was received from TRISO-X on April 5, 2022 (ML22101A200) and was supplemented by letters dated October 13, 2022 (ML22286A144) and November 4, 2022 (ML22308A251).
The NRC staff discussed the need for TRISO-X to use the appropriate building risk category for the American Society of Civil Engineers design standard. The NRC staff provided feedback on the appropriate risk category that should be used for a nuclear fuel cycle facility. TRISO-X stated they would consider the NRC staffs position, but they believe the threshold proposed by the staff is overly restrictive for the type of material and operations unique to their facility.
The NRC and TRISO-X staff held several meetings to discuss the structural review, which supported resolution of the requests for supplemental information and three of the four CONTACT: Matthew Bartlett, NMSS/DFM 301-415-7154 Enclosures 2 and 3 transmitted herewith contain Security-Related Information.
