[External_Sender] No Diablo Canyon License Extension Im writing to oppose any extension of the Diablo Canyon plant license.

Several years back, NRC already determined that the plant poses a high hazard risk from Earthquakes on the Hosgri-San Gregorio fault system. Also, a potential Tsunami strike on the west coast from even as far away as Hawaii could create a Fukushima sized disaster in California.

Furthermore, Pacific Gas & Electric has relied on data from similar reactor vessels to justify continued operations at Diablo Canyon, while dismissing indications that the steel wall in Unit 1 might be deteriorating from sustained exposure to radiation and is becoming susceptible to cracking, a condition technically known as embrittlement.

Climate change and rising sea levels represent a real threat to onsite nuclear waste storage. NRC must require PG&E to fund independent reviews of the spent fuel storage program as it ages and conduct ongoing monitoring of the roadways that could be used to eventually transport the spent fuel off site for any impacts from sea level rise.

This is a disaster waiting to happen. Stop the madness. Shut it down.

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission directed Diablo Canyon to conduct additional, in-depth analysis on earthquake risks by June 2017, part of a broad review of seismic threats following Japans Fukushima Dai-ichi disaster. The agency found that among commercial U.S. nuclear plants, the California plant is among those that face the highest hazard when potential strong ground shaking is evaluated against the plant design.
