Glen Rose, TX, 76043 General Comment I own a residence in Somervell County and am in favor of the 20 year extension of the Comanche Peak licenses. I reviewed the draft environmental impact statement and participated in the on-line meeting on December 21. I have seen the numerous identical form comments opposed to the renewal but they seem to just regurgitate theoretical problems.
I do not see from the environmental review any material problems. I have not heard from the community any known material problems. Certainly, there is concern about aging materials, but it is not reasonable to think that will not be monitored and addressed. I heard advocacy for renewable energy sources and other non-nuclear sources of power for the State of Texas, but numerous problems are beginning to be reported with other renewable energy sources and it seems unreasonable to assume that changes in climate will not negatively effect current sources, such as wind farms. Nuclear power is clean and certain and known, and because of the increasing population of Texas we need dependable sources of power. Comanche Peak is a necessary part of the current power plan.
