FYI - Office of Nuclear Regulatory Research (RES) Requests for Vogtle 3 & 4 Keith and Ken, The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) Office of Nuclear Regulatory Research (RES) has four requests related to Vogtle Electric Generating Plant (Vogtle), Units 3 and 4.

The first RES request Southern Nuclear Operating Company (SNC) has previously been made aware of. The RES staff requests information regarding SNCs implementation of Electric Power Research Institutes (EPRIs) cyber security technical assessment methodology at Vogtle, Units 3 and 4. Andrea Johnson is going to be NRC lead on this request for the NRC.

The other three RES requests are the following:

1. The RES staff requests full core physics data for Vogtle, Unit 3, to validate the NRCs core physics methods.

2. The RES staff requests an opportunity to observe simulator training for Vogtle, Units 3 and 4, and meet with the instructors. This would support a RES study of the impact of computerized operation procedures on operator performance and reliability. This project was requested by the Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulations (NRRs) Division of Risk Assessment in a research assistance request (RAR).

3. The RES staff requests first-of-a-kind and third-of-a-kind design verification data from China that supported the deletion of these tests from the Vogtle, Units 3 and 4, combined licenses (COLs).

As a heads up, the NRC will send a letter to SNC with the last three RES requests.
