STAFF REQUIREMENTS - DISCUSSION OF THE ADMINISTRATIONS SHORT-AND LONG-TERM DOMESTIC URANIUM FUEL STRATEGY On December 12, 2023, the Commission was briefed by a panel including external participants and an NRC staff member on the short-and long-term domestic uranium fuel strategy and NRCs readiness to support licensing and oversight. The external participants included Manuel Heart, Chairman, Ute Mountain Ute Tribe; Dr. Michael Goff, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary, Office of Nuclear Energy, U.S. Department of Energy; Kyle Wendtland, Land Quality Division Administrator, Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality; Kirk Schnoebelen, President, URENCO Inc; Rich Augi, LWR Fuel Product Director, Global Nuclear Fuel -
Americas; and Nickolas Roth, Senior Director, Nuclear Materials Security, Nuclear Threat Initiative.
The meeting, which was held in the Commissioners Hearing Room, One White Flint North, Rockville, Maryland at 10:00 a.m. Eastern Time, was open to members of the public attending in person and via webcast.
The Commission identified no requirements for staff action.
