To help the Agreement States and the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) remain knowledgeable of each others program, the NRC conducts one-day periodic meetings with Agreement States in between IMPEP reviews.

In accordance with the Office of Nuclear Material Safety and Safeguards (NMSS) Procedure SA-116, Periodic Meetings between IMPEP Reviews, and after previous coordination with you, we have scheduled the periodic meeting for February 29, 2024. The meeting will be held at the Maryland Department of Health offices in Baltimore, Maryland.

Based on our previous discussions, the likely topics for discussion at the meeting are listed on the enclosed agenda. If there are any additional specific topics you would like to cover, or if you would like to focus on a specific area, please let me know. Recommendation (2021 carried over to 2022): Maryland will review the qualifications of all RSOs, AUs, and AMPs listed on their medical licenses to ensure that they meet the qualifications in accordance with Marylands regulations for medical use of byproduct material.

Recommendation (2022): Update licensing procedures to ensure the reviewer conducts a thorough analysis of the licensees inspection and enforcement history of renewal applications and that Maryland conduct training on the updated procedures.
