Return Without Action - License Application XW031
Dear Doug:
This email is being sent specific to export application XW031, dated November 28, 2022.
The application requests the export of low-level radioactive waste to the United Arab Emartes (UAE), after decontamination of protective clothing and other related items. Based on information received from the U.S. Department of State in August 2023 and confirmed again in September 2023, the UAEs regulatory authority - The Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation - indicated no radioactive waste will be imported to the United States.
Specifically, the State Department stated the Nawah Energy Company decided to cancel the contract and will find alternative local waste treatment methods.
Based on the aforementioned, the NRC is returning without action, export application XW031.
