Subject:

Interservice/Industry Training, Simulation Education and Conference (I/ITSEC) 2023 Dates of Travel and Organizations Visited:

November 27 - December 1, 2023 Orange County Convention Center West Concourse, 9800 International Dr Orlando, FL 32819 Desired Outcome:

The conference gave me an opportunity to actively participate in a number of education sessions that are directly applicable to my work and allowed me to network with a number of government, industry and academia peers and experts. This annual event showcased simulation, education, modeling, and training technology and is one of the most cost-effective ways for the exchange of information among industry, the military, and the educational communities. I was able to gain knowledge in specific areas of simulations and the newest technologies that could be put to use with NRC Force-on-Force Inspection realism going forward.

I/ITSEC also provided an excellent opportunity to earn mandatory Continuous Learning Points (CLPs) within the scope of maintaining my certification as a contracting officer representative.

This conference allowed me to get credit for 6-8 CLPs based on schedule programs I attended.

Summary of Trip:

I/ITSEC is the worlds largest modeling and simulation event. This years lead service, the United States Army, in collaboration with National Training and Simulation Association (NTSA),

the Service Executives and Principals, and the combined total of more than 300 volunteers from industry, government, and academia have worked the last year to prepare this program. This years conference provided a full five-day program. I attended the following scheduled programs throughout the week:

Day 1:

Tutorial 7 - Simulation Conceptual Modeling Theory and Application Tutorial 9 - Finding Fidelity: When You Need It, When Its Too Much, and How to Optimize Simulations for High Training Effect and Low Cost Tutorial - Putting the When and Where into Simulations Focus Event - Black Swan - Dawn of the Super Soldier

2 Day 2:

Opening Remarks o

2023 Conference Chair (Eliot Winer, Ph.D.)

U.S. Army Fireside Chat o

The Honorable Douglas R. Bush Assistant Secretary of the Army (Acquisition, Logistics, and Technology) o General Gary M. Brita, USA Commanding General U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC)

Industry Keynote o

Doug A. Bowman, Ph.D.

o Frank J. Maher Professor of Computer Science Virginia Tech Day 3:

Community of Interest o

Simulations Standards: Delivering Multi-National Interoperability o

NTSA Career Fair at I/ITSEC Day 4:

Program Brief o

Army Acquisition Updates (TSIS Updates)

Community of Interests o

Conclusion:

The Training, Simulation and Modeling Industry has a very important job to do in providing the very best of Training Equipment and Simulation Technologies for our forces in the field as well as here at home. I/ITSEC strives to meet these very important and ever-changing needs. The attendees that were present at I/ITSEC understand that training is a core process in a successful and modern business. In these successful organizations, training is continuous, pervasive, and institutionalized. These organizations came to I/ITSEC to find the resources that they will need to adapt to the new tasks and threats of tomorrow.
