KAIROS POWER LLC - ISSUANCE OF CONSTRUCTION PERMIT FOR HERMES TEST REACTOR
Dear Mr. Hastings:
The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff has issued Construction Permit for Test Reactor (CPTR) No. CPTR-6 to Kairos Power LLC (Kairos) pursuant to Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations (10 CFR) Section 50.35, Issuance of construction permits. This construction permit (CP), which is immediately effective, authorizes Kairos to construct the proposed test reactor facility, as described in Kaiross application, in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. This CP was issued after receiving the report of the Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards, dated May 16, 2023 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) Accession No. ML23130A183), and as authorized by the Commissions hearing decision, dated December 12, 2023 (ML23346A068).
Enclosed is a copy of CPTR-6, including the Environmental Protection Plan (Appendix A), for the Kairos Hermes Test Reactor Facility. Also enclosed is a summary of the Commissions Record of Decision, which is fully documented in the Memorandum and Order supporting the Commissions final decision on the uncontested hearing held on October 19, 2023. A related notice will be forwarded to the Office of the Federal Register for publication.
