Interim Report of a Deviation or Failure to Comply Associated with a Relay in the Unit 2 Reactor Core Isolation Cooling Condensate Pump In accordance with the requirements of Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations (10 CFR) 21.21(a)(2), the Tennessee Valley Authority is submitting this interim report for Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant (BFN).

On October 2, 2023, a new overload relay was found to be defective during post-maintenance testing on a circuit breaker for the BFN, Unit 2, Reactor Core Isolation Cooling (RCIC) condensate pump. This QA1 part (DBC069X) had previously passed receipt inspection in April 2023 as part of a bulk order of 90 relays of this same type; 82 of these remain in stock. This issue was promptly entered into the BFN Corrective Action Program (CAP) as Condition Report (CR) 1883872.

BFN completed its 10 CFR Part 21 discovery process and determined the need to perform a 10 CFR Part 21 Evaluation. This Part 21 Evaluation is being tracked by TVA under Condition Report 1886775. The vendor, GE-Hitachi (GEH), was contacted and will assume responsibility for performing the Part 21 Evaluation for this relay. GEH is tracking this issue in their CAP as CR 44086. However, the vendors evaluation is ongoing and will not be completed within 60 days of discovery, prompting BFN to submit this interim report.
