OF NOVEMBER 9, 2023, PRESUBMITTAL MEETING WITH WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC COMPANY ON AP300 WHITE PAPER #1 DESIGN DESCRIPTION OVERVIEW On November 9, 2023, at 12:00 p.m. Eastern Time (ET), the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) held a hybrid public meeting with representatives of Westinghouse Electric Company (WEC). The purpose of the presubmittal meeting was to hear WECs presentation on the AP300 conceptual design that will be discussed in greater detail in a white paper WEC plans to submit on Design Description Overview, which may include feedback from this meeting. The presentation slides for this meeting can be found under Agencywide Documents and Access Management System (ML23310A144). The meeting was divided into two sessions; a public session and a proprietary session.
WEC staff presented at both the public and proprietary sessions and received staff feedback on the details of their plans and general design during the proprietary session. The AP300 design is largely based on the AP1000 certified design with changes that reflect the smaller power output, lessons learned from the AP1000 construction, and a simplification of features.
A member of the public asked a question of the staff regarding the preparedness and resources of the NRC to review the AP300 design. The staff responded that a lead project manager has been assigned and staff are available and ready to review the application.

There were approximately 38 participants remotely and 10 in person, including NRC staff, WEC staff, and members of the public. The public session of the meeting ended at 12:20 p.m. ET. The proprietary session started at 12:22 p.m. and closed at 2:35 p.m. ET.
