Washington, D.C. 20585
Dear Ms. Ferkile:
Enclosed is an application, XSNM3838, accepted by the US. Nuclear Regulatory Commission on October 24, 2023, from Westinghouse Electric Company, LLC, for the export of 2,400 kg of uranium containing 144 kg of uranium-235, enriched at 6%, in the form of fuel assemblies.
The fuel assemblies are in support of lead test assemblies for the Accident Tolerant Fuel program at Vogtle Nuclear Power Plant in Georgia. The proposed export is for the return of the fuel to Westinghouses Springsfields fuel manufacturing location in the United Kingdom, in the event that Vogtle is unable to accept the fuel assemblies.
Assurances from the United Kingdom that the material will be subject to all the terms and conditions of an agreement for cooperation are required. The material also contains obligations from Canada and EURATOM. Your assistance in obtaining the necessary assurances and providing retransfer notifications to Canada and EURATOM will be appreciated.
Sincerely, 11/20/2023 X Peter J. Habighorst Peter J. Habighorst Signed by: Peter J. Habighorst Peter J. Habighorst, Chief Export Controls and Non-Proliferation Branch Office of International Programs cc w/enclosures:
