NUSCALE POWER, LLC, SAFETY EVALUATION REPORT FOR LICENSING TOPICAL REPORT: TR-0716-50350-P, REVISION 3, ROD EJECTION ACCIDENT METHODOLOGY By letter dated December 21, 2022 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) Accession No. ML21351A399), NuScale Power, LLC (NuScale), submitted licensing Topical Report (TR)-0716-50350-P, Rod Ejection Accident Methodology, Revision 2. By letter dated October 20, 2023 (ML23293A292), NuScale submitted Revision 3 of TR-0716-50350-P (hereafter referred to as the TR). NuScale requested U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) approval of the methodology for the evaluation of a control rod ejection accident in the NuScale Power Module (NPM).
Based on its review of NuScales TR, the NRC staff prepared a safety evaluation (SE)
(ML23306A212, Proprietary and ML23310A166, Nonproprietary). This SE is being provided to support a meeting of the subcommittee of the Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards (ACRS) on February 6, 2024.
The NRC staff concludes that the nonproprietary version of the SE does not contain any information exempt from public disclosure. However, the NRC will withhold the nonproprietary SE from public disclosure for ten business days to allow NuScale the opportunity to verify the staffs conclusion that the SE contains no such exempt information. Therefore, the NRC staff requests that the ACRS withhold the nonproprietary version of SE from public disclosure until the information has been released publicly in ADAMS.
