Digital and Conventional Main Control Room (MCR) Designs R. Scott Egli, Senior Construction Inspector Vogtle 3 & 4 USNRC Region II

• In conventional MCRs, there are many dedicated indicators, displays, and control switches whit fixed locations. Operators can physically navigate to plant information and controls by changing locations.

• In digital MCRs, information about the plant is made available to operators through the computerized workstations that requires the operators to navigate through different screens as necessary for the evolution at hand.

• Proper teamwork and communications between MCR operating staff is of great importance for safe operation with both MCR platforms.
