September 9, 2023 Honorable Christopher T. Hanson, Chairman U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, D.C.

20555-001 Turkeypoint34environmental@nrc.gov Re: Docket ID NRC-2022-0172

Dear Chairman Hanson:

I write on behalf of the South Dade Chamber of Commerce, which represents small, medium and large business owners in the South Miami Dade communities, to express our strong support for Florida Power & Lights (FPL) request to renew the operating licenses for two of its nuclear reactors at Turkey Point.

Our 20,000 businesses rely on the clean and reliable energy that Turkey Point has provided this area for the last 50 years. With over 400 employees and an annual economic impact of $1.5 Billion, our local economy thrives as a result of the presence of Turkey Point.

With the licenses of these two reactors set to expire within 10 years, we fear that the adverse economic impact to the community and our business owners would be immeasurable. In addition, the loss of nearly $40 Million in property taxes to Miami Dade County would exacerbate the harmful economic impact. South Dade Chamber of Commerce believes that renewing the operating licenses for FPLs Turkey Point reactors is essential to maintaining our regions energy security and economic prosperity. The facility is well-positioned to withstand the challenges of sea level rise and climate change, and FPL has made significant investments in recent years to improve the plants safety and environmental performance.

We urge the Nuclear Regulatory Commission to approve FPLs request to renew the operating licenses for its nuclear reactors at Turkey Point. This decision will help to ensure that our region has a reliable and clean source of electricity for decades to come.

Sincerely, Lisa Greer, 2022-2023 Chair South Dade Chamber of Commerce South Dade Chamber of Commerce 257 N. Krome Avenue, Homestead, Florida 33030 - Mail to: P.O. 901544 Homestead, FL 33090 Telephone: 305-247-2332 - www.southdadechamber.org
