OKLO INC. - U.S. NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION STAFF FEEDBACK AND OBSERVATIONS ON THE OKLO WHITE PAPER FOR PRE-APPLICATION ENGAGEMENT, SAFETY CLASSIFICATION OVERVIEW

By letter dated June 2, 2023 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) Accession No.: ML23153A203) Oklo Inc. (Oklo) submitted a white paper (WP),
Safety Classification Overview, for the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staffs review. This paper summarizes Oklos approach to safety classification for its designs, including how regulatory controls and design bases are developed. Oklo also provided specific questions that it would like the NRC staff to address in its feedback. On April 21, 2023 (ML23104A096) the NRC staff met with Oklo to discuss a draft version of the WP that was shared with the NRC staff prior to the meeting. On June 27 and 28, 2023, (ML23164A132) the NRC staff met with Oklo to discuss how Oklo had addressed the NRC staffs preliminary feedback. The enclosure to this letter provides the NRC staffs feedback and observations for Oklo to consider as part of any future submittal that may address this topic.
