Thanks for the update. As a reminder.
APTIM should maintain the security fence around the project site until the NRC recommends and the Navy approves unrestricted release of the site. The NRC requires licensees to maintain the security fence around their licensed facility until it provides an official letter that the license is terminated for unrestricted release. The NRC requires those who hold a facility licensed by the NRC to have security measures in place to protect the public health and safety and to ensure no unauthorized activities occur at sites that involve the use or decommissioning of radioactive facilities. Further, the fencing ensures that the site remains in the final status survey condition until the NRC determines that the site can be released for unrestricted use.
The NRC will provide a written recommendation to the Navy regarding whether the SSSB project meets the unrestricted release criteria after it reviews all the FSS Reports and documents its conclusions in a safety evaluation report.
