Summary of Call with TRISO-X to Discuss Draft Requests for Information on Chapters 1 (Administrative), Chapter 2, and Emergency Plan Date:
Monday, July 31, 2023 8:08:55 AM On July 13, 2023, (Accession No. ML23187A511) the NRC staff held an observation call with TRISO-X, LLC. to discuss a number of draft requests for additional information (RAI) developed to support the safety and safeguards review of the TRISO-X license application for a new fuel fabrication facility in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. The RAIs covered portions of Chapter 1 - General Information, Chapter 2 - Organization and Administration, and the Emergency Plan.
The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff provided copies of the draft RAIs to TRISO-X in advance of the meeting to allow familiarization with the information. During the call the NRC staff discussed the information needed to ensure mutual understanding of the RAIs. TRISO-X identified a number of clarifications to the RAIs to facilitate their ability to provide quality responses. The NRC staff agreed to incorporate the comments, where feasible, into the final version of the RAIs. The TRISO-X staff stated they understood the RAIs.
The NRC and TRISO-X staff discussed the timeline for responding to the RAIs. There was agreement that the cover letter would request responses within 30 days from the date of the official RAI letter, likely to be issued by the end of July 2023.
