OF THE JULY 11, 2023, PUBLIC MEETING WITH X ENERGY, LLC TO DISCUSS PRESUBMITTAL OF PLANNED WHITE PAPER ON XE-100 EMERGENCY PLANNING On July 11, 2023, (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS)
Accession No. ML23179A219) the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff held a public meeting with the X Energy, LLC (X-energy) staff to discuss plans for X-energys submittal of a white paper regarding Xe-100 emergency planning. X-energys slides used during the meeting to support the discussion can be found in ADAMS (ML23192A214). The NRC staff asked clarifying questions and provided insight on staff guidance, which is in the process of or has recently been issued, regarding emergency planning.
After the business portion of the meeting, a member of the public provided a comment regarding the qualification of tri-structural isotropic (TRISO) fuel that X-energy intends to use. The member of the public mentioned that the Advanced Gas Reactor (AGR) Fuel Program did not fully address the TRISO fuel qualification, and that the NRC staff should do its due diligence to review the matter as it pertains to the emergency planning program that X-energy intends to submit.
