On behalf of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), I am responding to your letter dated June 16, 2023, requesting comments on the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) draft report GAO-23-105997, Nuclear Power: NRC Needs to Take Additional Actions to Prepare to License Advanced Reactors. As requested, the NRC has reviewed the draft report.
The NRC is in general agreement with the draft audit report. The enclosure to this letter contains our technical comments seeking to improve the accuracy and clarity of the report and preliminary responses to the recommendations contained in the draft report.
