Viktoria Mitlyng, 630-829-9662 Prema Chandrathil, 630-829-9663 NRC Names New Resident Inspector at Byron Nuclear Generating Station The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has selected Ashley Demeter as the new resident inspector at the Byron nuclear generating station, which is located in Byron Illinois and operated by Constellation Energy.

Demeter joined the NRC in 2021 as a project engineer. She has held rotational assignments as a resident inspector at the Illinois-based Dresden, Braidwood, and Byron nuclear power plants. Prior to joining the NRC, she served as a shift test engineer at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard.

We are pleased to welcome Ashley to Region III, especially as the new resident inspector at Byron. Her work at the Shipyard provided her with great experience and knowledge of nuclear maintenance and testing. In addition, her background as a nuclear quality auditor will be valuable in her resident inspector role. Ashleys great energy, competence, and readiness to actively support all areas of nuclear safety oversight will be great assets in her new position, said NRC Region III Administrator Jack Giessner.

Demeter holds a masters degree in nuclear engineering from North Carolina State University and a bachelors degree in physics from Baldwin Wallace University. She also performed significant work in areas of nuclear modeling and simulation research at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory during graduate school.

Each U.S. commercial nuclear power plant site has at least two NRC resident inspectors.

They serve as the agencys eyes and ears at the facility, conducting inspections, monitoring significant work projects, and interacting with plant workers and the public.
