Viktoria Mitlyng, 630-829-9662 Prema Chandrathil, 630-829-9663 NRC Names New Senior Resident Inspector at Byron Nuclear Power Plant The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has selected John Robbins as the new senior resident inspector at the Byron nuclear power plant.
The two-unit site is operated by Constellation Energy Company.
Robbins joined the NRC in 2004 as a Region III reactor engineer. Most recently, he was an operator licensing examiner, also in Region III. He was previously a resident inspector at the Bryon and LaSalle nuclear power plants and spent time as an acting senior resident inspector at the Monticello, Cooper and LaSalle nuclear power plants.
John brings considerable knowledge of nuclear operations, operator licensing and engineering systems to his new position. His extensive experience as a federal inspector coupled with his ability to carry out the agencys safety mission make him a great addition to the resident inspector office at Byron, said Region III Administrator Jack Giessner.
Prior to joining the agency, he served four years in the U.S. Navy as an aviation electronics technician. Robbins earned a bachelors degree in electrical engineering from Clemson University.
Each commercial nuclear power plant site in the United States has at least two resident inspectors who monitor day-to-day operations at the plant. They serve as the agencys eyes and ears at the facility, conducting inspections, monitoring significant work projects and interacting with plant workers and the public.
