OF MAY 25, 2023, PUBLIC MEETING WITH ROBATEL TECHNOLOGIES, LLC TO DISCUSS A NEW TYPE B WASTE TRANSPORTATION PACKAGE
Background
This was an Observation public meeting between Industrial Robatel Technologies, LLC (Robatel) and U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff to discuss a new Type B waste transportation package. Regulatory commitments were not made at the meeting. The meeting was noticed on May 11, 2023. The list of meeting attendees is provided in Enclosure 1. The publicly available meeting presentation slides are available in the Agencywide Documents Access and Management System Accession No. ML23143A140.
Meeting Summary On May 25, 2023, the NRC staff held a public meeting with Robatel representatives. The discussion followed the agenda provided in Enclosure 2. During the public portion of the meeting, Robatel provided a brief description of the package design and the proposed activated hardware contents. After discussing submittal timing and need date, the public portion of the meeting was adjourned. During the closed portion of the meeting, Robatel provided more detail about the shielding design of the cask, the configuration of the proposed contents within the cask, and the radiological characteristics of the proposed contents. Robatel also discussed the models and modeling assumptions used to evaluate the cask dose rates as well as preliminary dose rates generated from the models. The NRC staff occasionally asked questions during the presentation to better understand the cask design, the contents, or the shielding evaluation.
