OF APRIL 18, 2023, PUBLIC MEETING TO DISCUSS IMPLEMENTATION OF UPCOMING AGE-RELATED DEGRADATION INSPECTIONS (INSPECTION PROCEDURE 71111.21N.04)
On April 18th, 2023, the Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation staff hosted a webinar Observation meeting (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS)
Accession No. ML23100A055), with representatives from the Nuclear Energy Institute (NEI),
various licensee staff, and members of the public to discuss implementing the new inspection procedure (IP) 71111.21N.04 "Age-Related Degradation" (ARD) inspections beginning after July 2023.
During the meeting, the NRC staff presented an overview of ARD inspection implementation.
NRC staff provided a background on why the NRC are inspecting ARD and ARD Inspection Procedure objectives, while covering an overview of the inspection requirements and guidance including specific guidance on sample selection. NRC staff also discussed lessons learned from previous focused engineering inspections, specifically the Environmental Qualification and Power-Operated Valve inspections. NRC staff then conducted tabletop inspection scenarios with those in attendance, providing the audience with some of the examples that NRC inspection staff discuss as part of their training to prepare for implementation of the ARD inspections. The NRC staff presentation can be found at ADAMS Accession No. ML23094A297. The NRC staff allowed industry and NEI to provide questions, comments and feedback on the inspection and inspection procedure itself. NRC staff and industry conducted an open dialogue discussing the industry comments.
This meeting was a virtual webinar meeting. At designated points during the meeting, members of the public were invited to provide any comments on the presentations. There were no comments from the public during the meeting.
