NRC Mission Statement The NRC licenses and regulates the Nations civilian use of radioactive materials, to provide reasonable assurance of adequate protection of public health and safety, to promote the common defense and security, and to protect the environment.

Resident Inspector Program Resident inspectors live in the communities they serve Perform onsite inspections Provide daily oversight of plant activities, including the control room Routinely discuss safety concerns with plant personnel and senior management Observe emergency drills and provide support to NRC decision makers for actual emergencies or urgent issues

NRC Annual Assessment Summary Dominion operated V.C. Summer safely and in a manner that preserved the public health and safety and protected the environment.
V.C. Summer Nuclear Station entered the Regulatory Response Column (Column 2) of the NRCs ROP Action Matrix beginning the first quarter of 2022 and remained there for the remainder of the 2022 assessment period.
In addition to ROP baseline inspections, V.C. Summer will receive increased oversight in the form of two supplemental inspections in accordance with Inspection Procedure 95001, Supplemental Inspection Response to Action Matrix Column 2 Inputs.

NRC Inspection Findings Inspection Report 2022-002 Severity Level IV - NCV of 10 CFR Part 21(c)(1) for failure to evaluate and report a manufacturing defect in a basic component of a feedwater isolation valve Inspection Report 2022-004 Green finding/NCV for failure to establish adequate procedural controls to ensure that scaffolding erected near safety-related equipment would not adversely affect the performance of that equipment during a design-basis seismic event Inspection Report 2022-401 Three Green findings are documented in this report; the details contain security-related information and are not available for public disclosure.

NRC Inspection Findings On October 18, 2022, the NRC issued, Virgil C. Summer - Final Significance Determination of a White Finding and Notice of Violation and Assessment Follow-up Letter (ML22287A184) associated with the failure to identify and correct a condition adverse to quality which resulted in the inoperability of the B emergency diesel generator in January 2022.
On February 2, 2023, the NRC issued, Virgil C. Summer - Final Significance Determination for a Security-Related Greater than Green Finding, Notice of Violation, And Assessment Follow-Up Letter (ML23032A427) associated with an issue that occurred in the third quarter of 2022.
