Post Office Box 2000, Decatur, Alabama 35609-2000 May 1, 2023 10 CFR 21.21 ATTN: Document Control Desk U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, D.C. 20555-0001 Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant, Units 1, 2, and 3 Renewed Facility Operating License Nos. DPR-33, DPR-52, and DPR-68 NRC Docket Nos. 50-259, 50-260, and 50-296

Subject:

Interim Report of a Deviation or Failure to Comply Associated with a GE HFA Relay In accordance with the requirements of 10 CFR 21.21(a)(2), the Tennessee Valley Authority is submitting this interim report for Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant (BFN).

On February 16, 2023, during the bench calibration of the new GE HFA relay, GE Part Number 12HGFA151A1F, maintenance personnel found a missing contact associated with the new HFA relay. On March 2, 2023, BFN completed its 10 CFR Part 21 discovery process and determined the need to perform a 10 CFR Part 21 Evaluation. The vendor (GEH) was contacted and assumed responsibility for performing the Part 21 Evaluation for the relay. This Part 21 Evaluation is being tracked by BFN CR 1849255.

The relay was returned to GEH for evaluation. The vendor evaluation is ongoing and will not be completed in time to support the requirement to complete the evaluation within 60 days. Because the 10 CFR Part 21 Evaluation cannot be completed within 60 days of discovery, BFN is submitting this interim report. The vendor has expressed that they are tracking the Part 21 evaluation under GEH CR-42045 and the due date for the evaluation to be completed is June 2, 2023.

There are no new regulatory commitments contained in this letter. Should you have any questions concerning this submittal, please contact Chris Vaughn, Site Licensing Manager, at (256) 729-2636.

Respectfully, M. Sivaraman Site Vice President
