1.0 INTRODUCTION

The Virgil C. Summer Nuclear Station (VCSNS) utilizes a pressurized water reactor rated at 2900 MWT. The maximum dependable capacity is 966 MWe.

The station is located approximately 26 miles northwest of Columbia, South Carolina.

2.0 OPERATIONAL DATA For the reporting period of January 1 through December 31, 2022, the station operated at a capacity factor of 101.5% (using maximum dependable capacity) and a unit availability of 99.4%. The reactor was critical for a total of 8760.0 hours0 days <br />0 hours <br />0 weeks <br />0 months <br />, the generator remained on line 8710.1 hours1.157407e-5 days <br />2.777778e-4 hours <br />1.653439e-6 weeks <br />3.805e-7 months <br /> and the total gross electrical energy generated for 2022 was 8,934,661 MWH.

3.0 OPERATING

SUMMARY

VCSNS Unit No.1 operated at 100% power from January 1st through February 2nd .

On February 2nd power was reduced to approximately 15% and the main generator was taken offline at 1227 hours0.0142 days <br />0.341 hours <br />0.00203 weeks <br />4.668735e-4 months <br /> to perform repairs on the isophase bus duct. The main generator breaker was closed on February 4 th at 1421 hours0.0164 days <br />0.395 hours <br />0.00235 weeks <br />5.406905e-4 months <br />. Reactor power was restored to 100% on February 5th .

VCSNS Unit No. 1 operated at 100% power from February 5th to May 22 nd . On May 22 nd at 1109 hours0.0128 days <br />0.308 hours <br />0.00183 weeks <br />4.219745e-4 months <br /> power was reduced to 91 % to perform Main Turbine Valve Testing. Reactor power was restored to 100% on May 22 nd at 1800 hours0.0208 days <br />0.5 hours <br />0.00298 weeks <br />6.849e-4 months <br />.

VCSNS Unit No. 1 operated at 100% power from May 22 nd to September 16th . On September 16th at 2131 hours0.0247 days <br />0.592 hours <br />0.00352 weeks <br />8.108455e-4 months <br /> power was reduced to 90% to support Main Turbine Valve Testing. Reactor power was restored to 100% on September 17th at 0203 hours0.00235 days <br />0.0564 hours <br />3.356481e-4 weeks <br />7.72415e-5 months <br />. Power was reduced to 93% on September 26th at 0459 hours0.00531 days <br />0.128 hours <br />7.589286e-4 weeks <br />1.746495e-4 months <br /> due to a trip of the 'D' Feedwater Booster Pump. Reactor power was restored to 100% on September 28th at 00:54 hours following repairs to the 'D' Feedwater Booster Pump Motor leads.

The unit remained at 100% power for the remainder of 2022.
