OF THE PUBLIC MEETING TO DISCUSS THE NUSCALE US460 STANDARD DESIGN APPROVAL DENSITY WAVE OSCILLATIONS TOPICAL REPORT HELD JANUARY 25, 2023 The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff held a virtual observation public teleconference on January 25, 2023, to discuss NuScale Power, LLC (NuScales), licensing topical report (LTR) titled Methodology for the Determination of the Onset of Density Wave Oscillations (DWO), TR-131981, Revision 0.

The meeting notice was posted on the NRC public website and can be found in the Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) Accession No. ML23017A229. The NuScale presentation can be found under ML23027A224 (Nonproprietary) and ML23027A226 (Proprietary). The enclosure provides a list of the meeting participants.

During the open portion of the meeting, NuScale provided a brief overview of the history of DWO and of the topics that would be discussed during the closed portion of the meeting. NuScale then continued with a summary of the DWO LTR contents and explained how the LTR fits within the full structure of the steam generator qualification program. The NRC staff and the public were given an opportunity to provide comments and ask questions. Edwin Lyman, Union of Concerned Scientists, asked if this LTR was part of the recently submitted US460 Standard Design Approval application (SDAA) or if it was separate from the SDAA and was intended to support a combined license applicant.

NRC staff stated that this topical review supports the SDAA. The public session of the meeting concluded at 11:30 a.m.
