U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Public Meeting Summary February 23, 2023
Title:
Public Meeting to Discuss the Alternatives to the Use of Credit Ratings Proposed Rulemaking Date: January 25, 2023 Location: Webinar Category: Category 3 Purpose of the Meeting: The purpose of this meeting was to discuss the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commissions (NRC) proposed rulemaking for the Alternatives to the Use of Credit Ratings and request for stakeholder input.
General Details: The meeting was attended by 18 NRC staff and 5 members of the public.
Summary of NRC Presentation: The NRC staff presented an analysis of the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act of 2010 (Dodd-Frank Act) and its impact to NRC regulations. The staff also provided background on the NRCs Decommissioning Funding Assurance Requirements and the use of credit ratings. The staff discussed the proposed approach for implementing the requirements of the Dodd-Frank Act, the rulemaking timeline, and how to submit comments.
Summary of Public Feedback: Participants expressed their appreciation for the opportunity to meet to discuss the potential rulemaking. Staff informed the audience that the comment period for the proposed rulemaking closes on March 20, 2023.

The staff will consider, to the extent possible, public feedback received to inform the development of the final rule and associated guidance.
