STAFF REQUIREMENTS - OVERVIEW OF ACCIDENT TOLERANT FUEL ACTIVITIES On January 24, 2023, the Commission was briefed by an external panel and a staff panel on the status of, and issues associated with, the path to licensing accident tolerant fuel. The external panel included Bill McCaughey, Director, Office of Advanced Fuel Technologies, Office of Nuclear Energy, U.S. Department of Energy; Bradley Adams, Vice President of Technical Compliance, Engineering, Southern Company, and a member of the Industry Accident Tolerant Fuel Working Group; Rich Augi, Light Water Reactor Fuel Product Director, Global Nuclear Fuel; Jeffrey Bradfute, Senior Vice President, Americas PWR Fuel, Westinghouse Electric Company; and Dr. Edwin Lyman, Director of Nuclear Power Safety, Union of Concerned Scientists.
The meeting, which was held in the Commissioners Hearing Room, One White Flint North, Rockville, Maryland at 9:00 a.m. Eastern Time, was open to members of the public attending in person and via webcast.
The Commission identified no requirements for staff action.
