This is an Information Meeting with a Question and Answer Session. The purpose of this meeting is for the NRC staff to meet directly with individuals to discuss regulatory and technical issues. Attendees will have an opportunity to ask questions of the NRC staff or make comments about the issues discussed throughout the meeting; however, the NRC is not actively soliciting comments towards regulatory decisions at this meeting.
Purpose:
The NRC is sponsoring public workshops on the SCALE/MELCOR non-LWR Fuel Cycle Demonstration Project. The workshops are part of the agencys efforts to prepare for safety reviews of non-LWR license applications. The following topics are covered:
(1) An overview of a representative fuel cycle that covers enrichment and transportation of UF6, fresh fuel manufacturing, and spent fuel transportation and storage; (2) SCALE methods for predicting criticality, spent fuel fission product inventory and decay heats, as well as sample SCALE results; (3) MELCOR methods and results for accident analyses and fission product release to the environment.
A workshop on the high-temperature gas-cooled reactor (HTGR) will be held on February 28, 2023.
