SURRY POWER STATION, UNITS 1 AND 2 - FLOOD MITIGATION MODIFICATION CHANGE IN COMPLETION DATE
Dear Mr. Stoddard:
By letter dated December 7, 2022, Virginia Electric and Power Company (the licensee, Dominion) submitted a document (Agency Documents Access and Management System Accession No. ML22342A424), titled Virginia Electric and Power Company, Surry Power Station Units 1 and 2 (SPS) Response to March 12, 2012 Request for Information Enclosure 2, Recommendation 2.1, Flooding Focused Evaluation Integrated Assessment Submittal Revised Commitment Completion Date, (ML12053A340).
As stated in the above submittal, Dominion identified a revised commitment date for the completion of the flooding mitigation modifications (flood barriers) for SPS to November 1, 2023.
The licensee also stated that the new completion dates were due to scope increases and significant COVID-19 impacts that affected timely delivery of the flood barriers. The submittal also stated that these factors created a 2-year delay in the delivery of the flood barriers. Lastly, the licensee further stated that temporary flood barrier design is approximately 70% complete and that the pending implementation of the flood barrier designs is related to the Turbine Building Air Intakes, the Auxiliary Building ground water infiltration, and the Fuel Building ground water infiltration.
NRC staff has reviewed the submittal and the conditions contributing to the delay and revised commitment for the associated completion date, and finds the extension reasonable and acceptable. This letter acknowledges the revised proposed completion date of November 1, 2023.
