RESPONSE TO DECEMBER 6, 2022, LETTER REGARDING PACIFIC GAS AND ELECTRIC COMPANY LICENSE RENEWAL PROCEEDINGS FOR DIABLO CANYON POWER PLANT, UNITS 1 AND 2
Dear Interested Stakeholders:
I am responding to your letter (Agencywide Documents Access and Management Systems (ADAMS) Accession No. ML22342B239), regarding Pacific Gas and Electric Companys (PG&E) potential license extension of Diablo Canyon Power Plant (DCPP). The NRC has reviewed PG&Es October 31, 2022, letter requesting that the NRC staff resume its review of the DCPP license renewal application that PG&E voluntarily withdrew and terminated in 2018.
By letter dated January 24, 2023 (ADAMS Accession No. ML22343A179), the staff notified PG&E of its decision to not resume review of the voluntarily withdrawn application. The NRC is actively evaluating PG&Es alternative request for an exemption from 10 CFR 2.109(b). When a decision on the exemption request is made, the NRC will communicate the decision with PG&E and the public. A copy of the NRCs letter dated January 24, 2023, is enclosed.
