Reporting Requirements for Nonemergency Events at Nuclear Power Plants
AGENCY: Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
ACTION: Regulatory basis; extension of comment period.
SUMMARY
- On November 9, 2022, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission ( NRC)
requested comments on a regulatory basis to support a rulemakin g that would amend its
regulations for nonemergency event notifications. The public c omment period was
originally scheduled to close on January 9, 2023. The NRC is e xtending the comment
period to extend the public comment period to allow more time f or members of the public
to develop and submit their comments.
DATES: The due date of comments requested in the document published on November
9, 2022 (87 FR 67571), is extended. Comments should be filed n o later than January
31, 2023. Comments received after this date will be considered, if it is practical to do so,
but the Commission is able to ensure consideration only for com ments received on or
before this date.

II. Discussion
On November 9, 2022, the NRC requested comments on a regulatory basis to
support a rulemaking that would amend its regulations for nonem ergency event
notifications, evaluate the current requirements and guidance f or immediate notification
of nonemergency events for operating nuclear power reactors and assess whether the
requirements present an unnecessary reporting burden.
The public comment period was originally scheduled to close on January 9.
2023. The NRC has decided to extend the public comment period on this document
until January 31, 2023, to allow more time for members of the p ublic to submit their
comments.
The NRC may post materials related to this document, including public
comments, on the Federal rulemaking website at https://www.regulations.gov under
Docket ID NRC-2020-0036. In addition, the Federal rulemaking w ebsite allows
