STAFF REQUIREMENTS - MEETING WITH THE ADVISORY COMMITTEE ON THE MEDICAL USES OF ISOTOPES On December 6, 2022, the Commission was briefed on a variety of medical-related topics of regulatory interest by the following members of the Advisory Committee on the Medical Uses of Isotopes (ACMUI): Dr. Darlene Metter, ACMUI Chair and Diagnostic Radiologist; Dr. Michael OHara, Food and Drug Administration Representative; Dr. Hossein Jadvar, Nuclear Medicine Physician; and Megan Shober, Agreement State Representative. The topics discussed included an overview of ACMUI activities, ACMUIs review of Yttrium-90 medical events, emerging radiopharmaceuticals in an expanding nuclear medicine arena, impacts of the American Board of Radiologys request to eliminate its NRC-recognized certifications, and ACMUIs comments on the NRC staffs regulatory basis for the rulemaking on emerging medical technologies and Rubidium-82 generators.
The meeting, which was held in the Commissioners Hearing Room, One White Flint North, Rockville, Maryland at 10:00 a.m. Eastern Time, was open to members of the public attending in person and via webcast.
The Commission identified no requirements for staff action.
