Docket No.:

License No.:

22-334 RO 50-395 NPF-12 DELAY OF PLANNED END DATE FOR FOURTH 10-YEAR INSERVICE TESTING {1ST)

PROGRAM INTERVAL The purpose of this letter is to notify the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) that Dominion Energy South Carolina (DESC) is revising the end date for the fourth 10-year Inservice Testing (1ST) program interval for the Virgil C. Summer Nuclear Station (VCSNS), Unit 1.

The fourth 10-year interval for VCSNS is scheduled to end on December 31, 2023. The fourth 10-year jnterval for VCSNS follows the requirement of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Code for Operation and Maintenance of Nuclear Power Plants (OM Code}, 2004 Edition through 2006 addenda, which states the following in ISTA-3120, lnservice Test Interval, paragraph (d):

(d)

Each of the inservice test intervals may be extended or decreased as much as 1 year. Adjustments shall not cause successive intervals to be altered by more than 1 year from the original pattern of intervals.

DESC is extending the fourth 1ST interval end date to December 31, 2024, versus the previously scheduled interval end date of December 31, 2023, to allow time to adopt and apply alternative to the 2020 Edition of the ASME OM Code, approved (incorporated by reference) by issuance of the final rulemaking effective November 28, 2022. Based on this new end date for the fourth 1ST interval, the fifth 1ST interval will now begin on January 1, 2025, and will end on December 31, 2033. The 1ST interval will then reestablish the original pattern of intervals, unless DESC extends the fifth interval based on NRC approved methods.

In summary, the 1ST program plan end dates for the fourth and fifth 1ST intervals are December 31, 2024, and December 31, 2033, respectively.
