- Timeline
- License application submitted to NRC on March 30, 2017; accepted for detailed review on February 28, 2018
- NRC staff issued multiple requests for additional information (RAIs) to Holtec
- First Round RAIs issued in 6 parts (~300 items), issued April 2018 - August 2020
- Second Round RAI (~71 items), issued May 20, 2021, Holtec response completed October 29, 2021
- Third Round RAI (~45 items), issued March 23, 2022; Holtec response submitted April 15, 2022, supplemented August 15, 2022 All publicly available documents can be retrieved at:

- Publication of Final EIS on July 2022; final licensing decision on January 2023
- Schedule letter sought additional clarification and supplement to 3rd Round RAI responses by June 2022
- Holtec submitted supplement to 3rd RAI on August 15, 2022
- Holtec to submit final revision of SAR and application documents by November 2022
- Final SAR/application revisions provide editorial clarification; do not affect safety or environmental review findings

Holtec HI- STORE CISF Environmental Review - Timeline
- EIS public scoping process:
- Four-month scoping comment period (March 30 - July 30, 2018); NRC held 5 in-person public meetings in New Mexico, plus one nationwide webinar; received ~6,600 individual comments, received in-person, via email, website, and regular mail
- Draft EIS issued March 9, 2020:
- Six-month public comment period; NRC held 6 nationwide virtual meetings/webinars; received ~5,000 individual comments
- Final EIS issued on July 13, 2022:
- Documents the environmental impacts of the entire project from construction through decommissioning; recommends issuance of license, subject to completion of safety review
- Supplement to Final EIS issued on October 27, 2022
- Provides response to two comment submissions (SRIC, NEI) that were inadvertently not included in July FEIS
