Dear Ms. Jenks:
On October 14, 2022, the Washington Agreement State Program (Washington) submitted an updated Program Improvement Plan (PIP) (ML22290A221) which specifies the planned actions to address performance issues identified during the 2022 Integrated Materials Performance Evaluation Program (IMPEP) review. Washington submitted the PIP after being placed on Heightened Oversight because of the results of the 2022 IMPEP review. Based on the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Agency (NRC)s review of the information provided in the PIP, the NRC determined that the PIP adequately addresses the performance issues identified during the 2022 IMPEP review and approves the PIP. The PIP also contains estimated completion dates, where available, and specifies clear roles and responsibilities.
The initial bimonthly status call between the NRC and Washington is scheduled to be conducted on October 20, 2022. Please submit any PIP status updates to your Regional State Agreements Officer, Randy Erickson, at least five days prior to subsequent calls at Randy.Erickson@nrc.gov.
